Follow the Moon: August 12, 2018 - August 17

Moon enters Libra 11:57 pm CDT

Monday, August 13.
There is something about the angle of the Sun at this time of year, the way the honeyed rays of light hit the golden-tipped tall grass, that makes me realize Summer will end soon. Nature is shifting gears. I notice animals getting more industrious about collecting food, I also feel a desire to collect and organize bits of my life. The Virgo Moon will amplify this desire today. This is a get-your-act-together Monday. The Moon makes strengthening contacts with Pluto and Mars in Capricorn before moving into Libra. Take advantage of the desire to be productive.

Moon in Libra
August 14—Crescent Moon: Germinating.
The sliver of a crescent Moon graces our lunar intentions at this phase. Our magic is imbued with hope as the lunar cycle gets underway. Look for this grace in the western sky at sunset over the next three days. The Moon will be conjoining first Venus and then Jupiter. Venus in Libra is full of grace. Libran influence asks if we can work less hard while creating more beauty. How can we invite more ease and flow into our lunar intention? This may take a reframe of how we typically approach work, effort, and success. The intention of cultivating an open-hearted kindness towards myself invites me to struggle less and notice more the grace that is already present. This allowing becomes part of the lesson during this phase of the Moon. We are given a gift of beauty—the bright evening star of Venus conjoining an elegant sliver of a Moon. This inspiration bubbles up through our bodies, encouraging the journey that has just begun.

Few exact transits today help us to tune into the ongoing energies of planetary influence. Just because a transit is not exact does not mean the planets are silent. Neptune in Pisces and Jupiter in Scorpio are approaching the third and final trine of their recent sequence (exact on August 19). This influence has been subtle but significant since December 2017, when this aspect began. I believe it has made us more receptive to emotional truths. Scorpio truths are not easy to accept. This is the terrain of secrets and traumas. It is also the terrain of power and healing. Pisces truths are sometimes confusing. We can lose our boundaries in this place. But we can also find expansion and compassion here. The easy flow between these signs, encouraged by Jupiter and Neptune, presents the possibility of opening to collective healing and compassion. We need to be willing to feel and to trust this experience. The Moon in Libra helps us see each other and see ourselves in each other. This is an opportunity to step away from conflict and into connection.

Moon enters Scorpio 3:54 am CDT
Thursday, August 16.
Do not be disappointed if the ease and flow of the past few days turns a bit darker. This is the way of the zodiac. The Moon has moved from graceful Libra to intense Scorpio. We aren’t doing it wrong if we can’t keep up the niceties. Scorpio asks us to be authentic and reacts strongly to surface behavior. The opposition between the Moon and Uranus in Taurus makes sure we call out fakeness within and around us. Let’s get real. Mercury in Leo is getting ready to turn direct (August 18) and so is more powerful. We might catch ourselves saying something that we really think or trying to say it nice and failing miserably. This is not a free ticket to bad behavior. We need to be accountable too. As my intention this lunar month is to cultivate kindness towards myself, I wonder how to say what I need to say while remaining kind. Today’s transits will add to the ongoing inquiry.

Moon in Scorpio
Friday, August 17.
The quest to deepen communication continues with a square between the Moon in Scorpio and stationary Mercury in Leo coloring the day. The Leo influence reminds us to be mindful of ego but also to cultivate generosity when we need to say the difficult things. I love it when the planets encourage us to embrace contradictions, and they do a lot. We are growing in the ways we communicate with each other. Activists have moved from call outs (labeling and shaming) to call ins (teaching and inviting change) when we meet perspectives that are harmful to us. Are you noticing new ways to approach challenging points of view? I am convinced we can ask for accountability while also being kind. This isn’t an easy contradiction, but seems important at this time.
