Follow the Moon: May 16 - May 20

Moon in Gemini
Wednesday, May 16.
I keep tuning into live feed videos of the volcano on Hawaii, mesmerized by the constant roar of the Earth. I have new understanding for the power of dragons blowing fire and smoke. I respect the respect native Hawaiians have for their Goddess, Pele. Today, as Mars at zero degrees Aquarius makes a square aspect to Uranus at zero degrees Taurus, I respect and understand the pressures of this transit. I listen to the Earth blowing steam and I am listening to my body, the ways, I too, may need to release pressure. A stressful connection between Mars and Uranus is a great time to intentionally move our bodies, to diminish pressures in a way that feels safe and constructive. Small things can set us off. The idea is to wake up. What are we being asked to wake up to? The Moon in mutable air, Gemini, stimulates mental responses. Mars in Aquarius (another air sign) could cause us to take out the mental swords. Words and thoughts can erupt. Maybe our own eruptions are trying to teach us what needs attention.

Moon enters Cancer 4:47 pm CDT
Thursday, May 17.
Venus and the Moon conjoin in Gemini. Extraverts will enjoy this permission to chat it up with everyone around them. Introverts might be overstimulated. The extravert/introvert binary might not even work for you. There will be times of engagement and times of reflection and integration. Notice how we learn from each other. Notice ideas spreading. We are pollinating the garden.

Moon in Cancer
May 18—Crescent Moon: Germinating.
At the New Moon, I asked for the power of the mycelium to help me develop a greater sense of connection and empowerment for transformation. The mycelia are the underground webs that fruit into mushrooms and other fungi. They represent connection and transformation through the process of decay. At the Crescent phase of the lunar cycle we grow underground. The seed breaks apart and sends out its roots. Just like the mycelium, before we manifest our fruits, we feed our underground networks. Recent transits may have made it hard to stay grounded into the Earth. The influence of Mars entering fixed air, Aquarius, and making a square to the awakener planet Uranus, has created more agitation. You may have noticed restlessness or anxiety. The Uranian alarm clock can be very uncomfortable. This is the time to breathe and move at the speed of trust. Trust that we are connected. Underground, changes are already happening. Our wills are less important than our hearts. Uranus in Taurus may be reminding us that pleasure is revolutionary. Our bodies are the keys to change and we don’t have to do anything other than connect and grow our roots. For some of us, this means unlearning a lot of programming about change and power. Moving at the speed of trust may mean we wait through the process of relearning to follow the lead of our bodies. A harmonious trine aspect between Mercury in Taurus (representing body wisdom) and Saturn in Capricorn (representing committed action) supports our knowing and our healing.

The Moon in Cancer, in a grand water trine with Neptune in Pisces and Jupiter in Scorpio, encourages nurturing and tending. Emotions tell us about the big changes we’ve been going through. We may feel that the changes to come are overwhelming. Our emotions reside in our bodies that are mostly water. Listen to your body. Each of us has a different need. For some, it is movement, for others it is silence, and for some a hug or reminder we are not alone.

Moon enters Leo 6:10 pm CDT
Saturday, May 19.
New influences abound right now. Venus moves into Cancer. Mars recently entered Aquarius, Uranus into Taurus, and Chiron into Aries. Tomorrow, the Sun moves into Gemini. New things can bring excitement and fear. We are adjusting. Antennas are out. Our bodies are reacting. Perhaps patterns around change and uncertainty are being set off. This doesn’t mean we haven’t done this before and we will be able to do it now. The influence of change is something to notice. For most of the day, the Moon is in Cancer too. We seek comfort and respond to others discomfort. Cancer soothes the hurts and cares deeply. This quality is looked for in relationship as Venus moves through this sign. An added twinkle comes from a sparkling connection between Venus and Uranus in Taurus. Although the directive is to nurture, we are also delighted to find new ways to sense connection. There is support for adjusting to change. This supportive influence is helpful this afternoon when the Moon moves into Leo and creates stressful contacts with Uranus and Mars. Big egos could be dangerous. We can use the calmer influence of Venus to soothe reactivity.

Moon in Leo
Sunday, May 20.
Sun enters Gemini.
The Sun moves into the beautifully curious sign of Gemini. Curiosity may be just the thing to cultivate as we encounter change and upheaval with recent planetary ingresses into new signs. What happens next? What new opportunities will we encounter? What serendipitous coincidences will lead to our next important steps? We simply don’t know how things are going to play out. Yes, this is coming from an astrologer who seems to talk a lot about the future. But really, all I see are influences. I don’t see our choices. I don’t know how our choices will play out. And I am curious. We are greater than the sum of our parts. We are connected in ways we cannot fathom. It matters that we show up in the ways we can. It matters that we are here. Gemini can be overwhelming when we feel too much input and not enough internal quiet. But Gemini can also be a breath of fresh air to lighten oppression. Curiosity is contagious and it can be learned. We can pretend to be curious until we suddenly find that we are. Curious about what next. Curious about what if.

We can extend this curiosity to the complex pattern that Venus in Cancer, Mars in Aquarius, and Chiron in Aries are creating. If we desire healing, then all these planets can work well. Venus brings emotional support. Chiron brings daring to heal. Mars brings a vision. We may struggle under this influence if we encounter disassociation between thinking and feeling. Neither approach alone is enough. With the Moon in Leo, the more we can check our ego, the better we are at aligning with the gifts this planetary pattern offers. We are channels, not the source.
