Follow the Moon: December 19, 2017—December 25

Forecast for December 19, 2017—December 25

Moon in Capricorn
Tuesday, December 19.
Farewell to Sagittarius, Saturn enters Capricorn today. Saturn will be in this sign until the end of 2020. Saturn provides the framework for our evolutions. The Moon in Capricorn today reinforces this transition. The seasonal instruction, which helps us understand Capricorn, comes from the deep of winter. This is the time of year when the storehouses can run out if we aren’t careful. Capricorn keeps an eye on the management and structure of resource to ensure survival. Capricorn can sometimes take a top-down approach to managing resources. When Capricorn influence is strong, we may see hierarchical values promoting a need to earn one’s status in the group. Capricorn takes life seriously, AND Capricorn can be the most irreverent sign in the zodiac, making fun of how dreadfully serious we all can be. The best Capricorns have a good handle on how seriously they take themselves. We will need to learn how to walk this thin line over the next three years. Things are serious. Humor gives us added resource.

Moon enters Aquarius 8:29 pm CST
Wednesday, December 20.
A streak of rebelliousness is tempting us to out of our ruts. Venus in Sagittarius makes a trine to Uranus in Aries. What feels like a vacation, even if you never leave town? We need to recharge. Lighten up. Another influence may have us crying instead. We also feel attuned to communal suffering and pain through a square aspect between Venus and Chiron in Pisces. Friends and lovers open the doors to adventure and big feelings.

Moon in Aquarius
Thursday, December 21.
Winter Solstice. My community recently celebrated Winter Solstice with a ritual of listening in the dark. Our voices sang about the seeds in the fertile darkness. We honored the night. This comforting and beautiful vision of winter’s magic co-exists with the pressure and depression that some of us feel at the dark time of the year. Some scientists theorize that people may suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder because our bodies are wired to sleep more in the winter yet our modern lifestyles don’t allow it. Maybe we are out of sync with the Earth and seasons. This Winter Solstice invites us to rest, perhaps more than most, because we feel the pressures of life around us. Today Saturn and the Sun conjoin at zero degrees Capricorn. The temptation may be to feel overwhelmed by all the work that must be done to bring the world right again. Saturn isn’t only about work. Saturn brings wisdom, too. What remedy do you need to embrace the natural dark of winter? Is it rest? Is it renewal? Is it intention setting for the year ahead? Wisdom already resides in you. What does it say?

Moon in Aquarius
December 22—Crescent Moon: Germinating. Since the New Moon on December 18, we’ve been getting a good feel for this Capricorn-infused Sagittarius lunar cycle. The energy tone has been warm and cold, expansive and austere, loud and silent. What could germinate from such contrary seeds? At the New Moon, I wondered what it would be like to decolonize my intentional work of this lunar cycle, to take my cues from the winter season and receive the next parts of this unfolding journey slowly, with attention towards asking rather than taking. The Sagittarius part of this lunar cycle could induce feelings like all the work needs to be finished right away. The Capricorn part, highly influenced by Saturn’s ingress into Capricorn for the next three years, could feel like there is too much to do. Melancholy and depression are real things. Saturn is often associated with them. Under the heroic/colonizing mindset, we are used to fighting, conquering, or escaping pain. Shifting out of heroic and colonizing responses to pain, it could feel like we are stumbling about in the dark. This is a good time to pay attention to our networks, friendships, and healers—those who will sit with us, listen, and share journeys. Another anti-heroic response is to admit we need help. We are not alone.
Capricorn knits relationships that help us through tough times. Like the seeds germinating under this lunar cycle’s soil, invisible networks are strengthening. We will need them now and later to continue transforming our beloved world.

This may be the good news: Mercury stations direct today. This has not been an easy retrograde period. Mercury has been circling around Saturn this time, so far making two conjunctions with Saturn. Mercury completes this Saturn dance on January 13. This last leg of the Mercury journey, moving forward through the retrograde zone of the zodiac, is a chance re-integrate. Honor the messenger god. Honor the messages.

Moon enters Pisces 8:42 am CST
Saturday, December 23.
The Moon in Pisces helps soothe our hearts, especially if recent days have felt heavy. There is a reason to be patient. There is a reason to reach out to our networks. There is a reason to listen to the emerging tendrils of meaning. Seeds are germinating. The most we need to do is open and feel. Receive. Accept. Exchange.

Moon in Pisces
Sunday, December 24.
This is a day of the big feels, but in a way that could feel cleansing and renewing. The Moon in Pisces (mutable water) is synthesizing emotional experiences and connecting with the transformative powers of Mars and Jupiter in Scorpio (fixed water). The Moon receives next-level intuitive powers by conjoining Neptune in the morning (U.S. time zones). And Venus moves into Capricorn, which will ease up the isolation and burden of Saturn’s recent ingress a bit. Venus and Saturn in Capricorn are buddies. This is the side of Venus that gets shit done, all while cultivating relationships that work for our survival. We absolutely cannot do it alone. Venus will only be in Capricorn till January 17. Let’s invite those connections that are mutually beneficial. Networks are forming.

Moon enters Aries 6:27 am CST
Monday, December 25.
Holidays like Christmas can help some of us feel more connected and grateful. For others, it may feel more isolating. Whatever our situation, I wonder if we can feel into the complexity while attempting to leave no one behind. Venus and Saturn conjoin at zero degrees Capricorn today. This degree is important. It has the potential to lay down new patterns. Zero degrees of cardinal signs (Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, Libra) are portals, openings to new paradigms. Imagine new connections. Imagine new ways to be vulnerable and necessary to each other. Imagine we create new worlds when we dispel the hex of isolation. The Moon in Aries awakens the fire portal. Somehow Aries got the message that they must act alone. How do we maintain the flame of interdependence instead?
