Follow the Moon: Forecast for November 26, 2017—December 2

“We think that the point is to pass the test or overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don't really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It's just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy. (10)”
― Pema ChödrönWhen Things Fall Apart: Heartfelt Advice for Hard Times

The coming week is one of agitation. It could feel like a week when we can’t really get too comfortable because we’ll quickly have to adapt and change as new influences enter the scene. It may feel like things coming together and falling apart a lot. This lunar cycle began on the threshold between Scorpio and Sagittarius. Part of us wants to absorb emotional experiences slowly and deeply. Another part is ready to leap into new discoveries and new horizons. Transits this week have us coming and going. It will be a trick to make room for it all with grace and presence.

The Moon in Pisces (mutable water) starts the week tempting us into dreamy states. Pisces helps regulate strong emotion coming from the Scorpio zone held down by Jupiter and Venus in Scorpio. Pisces also makes it a bit harder to say no to exciting opportunities arising under the expansive influence of Sagittarius. How will you know from moment to moment what is best for you? Do you hole up in your home? Do you answer the call of discovery? How do you listen to yourself?

Another influence, the conjoining of Mercury and Saturn in Sagittarius, puts pressure on us to perform better than usual. This won’t be easy either. Mercury is about to station retrograde. The domain of Mercury influence: thinking, communicating, travel, and technology, may seem to be conspiring against us. Saturn makes it feel like more of a disaster when things go wrong because we want to do well. There are major lessons to learn from these two planets this week.

The major transit of the week is volatile and creates a field of uncertainty. Mars in Libra opposes Uranus in Aries on December 1. The day before, the Moon in Aries triggers this near exact opposition. It is good to take a pause before taking rash action. Mindful approaches to stress, anger, and fear are helpful. It may be important to be the one who contributes equanimity when others are losing perspective and patience. But we are also called to look at stale and stagnant structures in our lives. What must fall?

The week ends under the influence of Mercury stationing retrograde under the Full Moon in Gemini. Mercury rules Gemini and will greatly impact our experience of this Full Moon. Humor and curiosity are great assets for this period.

Forecast for November 26, 2017—December 2.

Moon enters Pisces 2:04 am CST
November 26—First Quarter Moon: Sprouting. Under the Pisces Moon, water pulls us back into ourselves and into a desire for more intimate connection. At the New Moon on November 18, seeds were planted—whether consciously or not, these seeds are beginning to emerge as potential. We began in the depths of Scorpio, in what may have felt like an underworld journey. The Sun has moved into Sagittarius, and the glare of that light may be startling. Are things getting away from you? The question, as we come together and fall apart this week, could be: How do I stay present to myself? How do I fully live into this moment?

Venus in Scorpio governs our relationships. We need trust and safety. Venus is making a trine aspect to Chiron in Pisces. We are asked to go beyond safety to vulnerability. With the Moon also in Pisces making contact with Jupiter and Neptune, the more we lean in to real intimacy, the more authentic and secure our relationships become. Give yourself time for such connections now, later in the week, we may be able to draw upon these important exchanges.

Moon in Pisces
Monday, November 27.
Discord could lie under the surface of our interactions today. Being clear about our needs and desires could help bring conflict out in the open where we can be honest and open with each other. Venus in Scorpio, ever desirous of deeper connection, is stressed by a contact from Uranus in Aries. Uranus is impatient with slow process and that could help us move out of stuck places. The Moon in Pisces may contribute a desire for everyone to get along. That just isn’t always possible. Humans are being human today.

Moon enters Aries 10:30 am CST
Tuesday, November 28.
Almost three years ago, Saturn entered Sagittarius with a mission to refine and focus the stories we tell about our world. Saturn has shown us the ugly side of rationalizing what we want to believe. It has left us with a scary realization that truth isn’t as dependable as we thought. Facts are the victim of trying to shape reality by confusing the story. What can we rely on? How can we be more honest about the foundations of our beliefs? And how can we be more accountable for the stories we are obligated to dismantle? Saturn is on its way out of Sagittarius next month. It is time to tally up the lessons we’ve learned. Today, Mercury and Saturn come together near the end of Sagittarius. On the Full Moon, Mercury will station retrograde in Sagittarius and will retrace its steps through the sign of the big story. Mercury will conjoin Saturn three times during this process. Two times in Sagittarius and the last time in Capricorn. Mercury says, let’s take a little journey into what we really believe. We may be surprised by what we learn. Be curious to learn what your stories reveal about you. Be willing to change your mind.

Moon in Aries
Wednesday, November 29.
The Aries Moon dares to leap. We may regret it later, but this willingness to go first into the unknown helps us move forward. Light a fire. Be bold. Dare to believe in yourself. The Moon’s only aspect is a square to Pluto in Capricorn. There is a sense of risk and danger in these bold actions. That makes them even more vital. If you can keep a cord fastened to your recent underworld journey—the time you felt most exposed and raw. You will learn to expand your capacity to act and be vulnerable at the same time.

Moon in enters Taurus 2:38 pm CST
November 30—Gibbous Moon: Budding. This lunar cycle began in Scorpio darkness and quickly transformed into Sagittarian fire. Are you noticing the constant pulsation between leaving and returning as we cycle through things coming together and falling apart? This feels like an accelerated process of death and rebirth. It feels like training for transformation. This may also feel like a cycling through emotion. How does this human experience connect you? How does it develop your journey and impact on the world? This rapid cycling is like a muscular workout preparing us for the next big thing. This phase of the Moon often feels like that too. We are on the cusp of realization or illumination. There are just a few more experiences to have first.

Early in the day, the Moon near the end of Aries, contacts Mars in Libra and Uranus in Aries. These two planets will oppose each other tomorrow. This could be triggering. Mars and Uranus set off rapid chain reactions for change. Mars’ mission is to reestablish balance but we might need to release disruptive energy before we settle back to that state of response and exchange. This is the perfect storm of a transit if we’ve been in denial about changing. Change will always win that battle.

After an unsettling morning (U.S. time zones), the Moon moves into Taurus. In this season of death (in the Northern Hemisphere where we are experiencing fall and winter), Taurus provides the anchor to life. It may be too easy to become cynical and despairing in the face of so much loss. Taurus reminds us that the cycles of the Earth are greater than we are. There is a much bigger story. And if we are lucky, we get to be part of it.

The quincunx aspect between Mars in Libra and Chiron in Pisces doesn’t let us settle for easy answers. This is the struggle to integrate intellectual dispassion with vulnerable compassion. Holding both with equanimity and openness is a great gift, especially for those we come in contact with. Our connections create healing.

Moon in Taurus
Friday, December 1.
Mars in Libra opposes Uranus in Aries today. Yesterday, the Moon helped kick off this transit. Change is the only constant and we are reminded that the only really dependable thing in our lives is that we will change. Every one of us is falling. Control over this process is an illusion. And so, if we get to really re-experience that truth today, what do you choose? How do you choose to fall through the rest of your life? The speed of the fall could feel brisk today. Does that make you feel more alive? Are you sad that change will impact everything you love? These are hard realities. In this lunar cycle highly influenced by Scorpio, we have the opportunity to see with clear eyes what has always been true: everything is always changing. Venus moves into Sagittarius, remember the way we return from the underworld is important. Give honor to your depth journey. Remember the vulnerability. Recall the truths you experienced. We may feel like righting some wrongs after such a journey. Today is a good day to start.

Moon enters Gemini 3:21 pm CST
Saturday, December 2.
Today is a wild mix of yang and yin energies. We are falling apart and coming back together all at once. Jupiter in Scorpio makes a trine connection to Neptune in Pisces. Under this influence we are invited to relax into connection through vulnerability. Yet, the Moon moves into the busy mental sign of Gemini while Mercury is stationing retrograde in Sagittarius. Even though we may want to rest in emotional connection, we could be thrown into mental problem-solving. If we are lucky, setbacks and confusion will stimulate curiosity and humor as we realize that there is just so much to pay attention to and learn from today. I quoted the wise Pema Chödrön at the beginning of the week, “The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy.” It is all present. How do you make room?

Follow the Moon: Forecast for November 18, 2017—November 25.

I’ve always wanted a nice, tidy chemical equation that could govern underworld journeys—those journeys that take us out of the ordinary and into the shadow places. Wouldn’t it be great if we knew in advance just how much shadow material to reveal to get a boost of transformative power? Wouldn’t it be great if we could control the chain reaction when we start poking at the things hidden away in the shadows? I’ve been reflecting on Inanna’s journey to the underworld recently. From the Sumerian text that describes her journey, she encounters seven gates where she is challenged to give up another piece of her power and identity. At each gate, the most powerful goddess in this culture is told, “Quiet Inanna, the ways of the underworld are perfect. They may not be questioned.” She had to shut up and do what they told her. This journey is not so nice and controllable. Not tidy. Not efficient. Not safe. That is where we are right now in the U.S. as shadows of sexual abuse are being revealed. It may be necessary but it doesn’t feel safe to tell the truth. It doesn’t feel like we get to keep control of the process, and it does feel like we are entering another realm, with its own rules, that must be obeyed.

Can we trust the ways of the underworld? Here is some of what I know, or perhaps want to believe. Exposing shadows can bring healing. It can renew our vital selves. It can be a reclamation of power. The big question I’ve always had about Inanna’s journey concerns why she decided to descend at all. She had all the external power she could have. She was worshipped. But she needed something more. Jungian psychologist James Hillman described that something more as soul. The myth is open to other interpretations, but I’ve always found this piece about soul to be comforting, even as I tremble at the gates of my underworld.

My heart goes out to those who are telling their truths and the ones who are being triggered to remember and relieve their own experiences of abuse. I know this is not a journey we chose to take. It is not as if we were sitting around bored and thinking wouldn’t it be great to have a deep and soulful experience by bringing up ways we’ve been abused? No, it seems that there is another reason. We could call it justice, we could call it a yearning for healing, we could call it a vision for a different world. This journey sometimes just opens up, whether we are ready or not, and there we are. Since Jupiter went into Scorpio in October, this journey has just opened up. The last lunar cycle, which traversed much of the Scorpio terrain, only deepened it. On November 18, the next lunar cycle begins near the end of Scorpio. There is more to experience. Soon after, the Sun enters Sagittarius. The exchange between these signs will reveal how we move forward after so many shadows. What we do next says it all.

This next lunar cycle happens on the threshold between Scorpio (fixed water) and Sagittarius (mutable fire). Energetically this can feel like coming from the deep and dark into an extrovert’s party. There may be a temptation to shake off the previous shadow work too quickly and jump right into easy escapism. But that isn’t the only temptation. Some of us could feel stuck in the dark while the party is going on, creating more isolation. How we return from the underworld matters. How we honor our soulful journeys matters. This lunar cycle may be about doing both. Returning and honoring. When Inanna returned, she raged against Dumuzi, one of her lovers who had taken her throne, and sent him packing to the underworld. Perhaps some of us will need to return from our visit to painful places by raging against injustice. This is one possibility. And a strong one, since this lunar cycle begins with a square between both rulers of Scorpio (Mars in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn). Rage plays a role. Mars in Libra will fight for justice. Pluto is the toxic power structures we’ve been uncovering since Pluto went into Capricorn in 2008.

Mars is active during this lunar cycle. On December 1, Mars will oppose Uranus in Aries, the revolutionary agent of change. This is a tinderbox transit. Mars sparks action for any ways we are not being authentic. What has the underworld journey taught you about your authenticity?  On December 9, Mars enters Scorpio. If things weren’t real before, they are now. This is another plunge down. Since Jupiter will be in Scorpio all year, we will experience diving and rising again and again. How we return from the underworld matters.

Forecast for November 18, 2017—November 25.

Moon enters Sagittarius 12:59 pm CST
November 18—New Moon: Seeding. This New Moon is a seed planted in the underworld of Scorpio that will grow into the light of the next sign, Sagittarius. Sagittarius is the storyteller. We will be creating new stories this lunation. Saturn has been occupying Sagittarius since October 2015 (Saturn went into Sagittarius in December 2014 and retrograded out from June 2015 through October). Saturn demands accountability. Our stories have been ignored. The dominant stories of culture have been based on manipulation of the storytelling functions of culture. Fake news became a thing under Saturn in Sagittarius. There are authentic stories. There is authentic truth. An underworld journey can help us to remember what we have lost or been fooled into thinking isn’t real. Mercury joins Saturn in Sagittarius at this New Moon. Mercury will be taking a retrograde journey through Sagittarius from December 3 to December 22. We are not only asked to reflect on our truth, we must do the work of throwing out the stories that don’t resonate and don’t create life for us and the planet. At this New Moon, I plant the seeds of reclaiming my voice. After the shadow work of Scorpio, where collective and personal demons are felt more strongly, I return with a voice for justice, a voice for truth, a voice for change. What are the seeds you plant?

Moon in Sagittarius
Sunday, November 19.
The square between Mars in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn perfects today. Let authentic rage move through you. There is a lot to be rageful about. And notice, what your anger is revealing. Are you able to channel your anger to the proper source or is it coming out sideways? Without judgment, we have the opportunity to notice patterns around anger. Perhaps we also will be gifted with the insight about who justly deserves this anger and who does not. The Moon in Sagittarius encourages movement of some kind. This can be a wonderful way to get unstuck if big emotions are moving in.

Moon in Sagittarius
Monday, November 20.
The Moon in Sagittarius conjoins two important players for this lunar cycle, Mercury and Saturn. Saturn will be leaving Sagittarius next month. This lunation and next are opportunities to reap the lessons Saturn grew for us during this time (basically the last 2 and ½ years). Sagittarius is concerned with truth, meaning, the expansion of our horizons. Saturn teaches through limiting and narrowing our options, which feels contradictory to Sagittarian impulse. It hasn’t been an easy couple of years for our Sagittarius friends. But we’ve learned something and we are better for it. What did you learn? Mercury is preparing to turn retrograde soon. In Sagittarius, we get to reflect on our truths and the stories driving our perceptions of reality. As we notice our stories today, the Moon invites an inner knowing. Don’t strive for it, let it arise. Small insights can be big.

Moon enters Capricorn 1:14 am CST
Tuesday, November 21.
Sun enters Sagittarius. The threshold is crossed when the Sun moves from Scorpio to Sagittarius today. I am imagining this as a step of return from an underworld journey. Our personal journeys and returns will have different timings, but today perhaps, begin to notice what you think of as a return from depth. What do you bring back with you that feeds your authentic truth? We are invited to treasure that. Venus in Scorpio makes a lovely sextile to Pluto in Capricorn today. This is a blessing for our journeys, for speaking about our shadows, and for the mysteries of healing and exchange with those shadows. The Moon in Capricorn invites a concrete way to honor our journeys. Perhaps this will be in the form of activism or actions that reflect your truth. Lunar wisdom teaches me that small conscious actions can have big impact. Experiment with that.

Moon in Capricorn
November 22—Crescent Moon: Germinating. Seeds planted during the New Moon phase of this cycle begin to tremble and burst into life. This is still happening underground. Let things germinate for a while. The return from the underworld will happen in its own time, in the time your soul needs. Let’s not be fooled into thinking our timing is off when others around us are going full force into what is known as “the holiday season.” This is a time that can try the soul of those who need to remain with gravity in the dark. Perhaps it is appropriate to name this obsession with escapist consumerism as the root of our problems right now. Perhaps consumerism is the Dumuzi of Inanna’s story. (See intro to this week’s forecast.) Perhaps this is just where we should focus our rage.

Neptune in Pisces stations direct today. This is powerful energy that focuses our experiences on connections that feel eternal and outside the ways we can fill our days with meaninglessness. Neptune also offers illusion as a good substitute for what is real. Both are possible today and perhaps as we notice our germinating seeds, we are offered a chance to discern the difference between what is real and what is false. Truth is not relative but it also isn’t there to comfort us. Notice what you want to avoid. There may be revelations there. The Moon in Capricorn encourages realism. Balance this with feelings of transcendence (Neptune’s urge). Where does that land you?

Moon enters Aquarius 2:14 pm CST
Thursday, November 23.
Perhaps there is nothing more centered in the American mythos than the holiday of Thanksgiving. Yes, one can, and I do, reframe this celebration as a time to honor hearth and give thanks for what the Earth provides. But I must also acknowledge that the entire myth of Thanksgiving is mostly about the good colonizer. One of the things this myth says is that at the core, at the beginning of colonization, white people were welcomed here. Thanksgiving represents a hope that colonizers can be redeemed somehow, that all the genocide that followed that mythic first Thanksgiving can somehow be forgiven. We’re good, right? As we gather at our hearths, let us remember those who are living with the legacy of genocide and the impact of colonization every day of their lives. This is a somber reality. After making a square to Uranus in Aries early in the morning the Moon enters Aquarius. We may notice impatience for those who are complacent with the way things are going. A good topic of conversation at this Thanksgiving could be examples of activism that inspire you.

Moon in Aquarius
Friday, November 24.
Do people still celebrate this as Buy Nothing Day? I think this is a fabulous practice for disengaging from the constant messaging of the overculture. The pressure to assuage discomfort by shopping is intense. The Moon in Aquarius encourages us to take a stand. Listen to your authentic voice within. Where would you rather put this energy?  Mercury in Sagittarius makes a square to Chiron in Pisces. The heart of compassion is to recognize the suffering of self and other and to find a way to erase divisions. I cannot conflate my suffering with the suffering of others, but I can recognize our common humanity. I can be moved to make a difference.

Moon in Aquarius
Saturday, November 25.
A lot of fire/air energy today sparks personal revolutions and revelations. What will you change? What did you just realize? Mercury in Sagittarius is making a trine to Uranus in Aries. Thoughts and insights are firing. We may think we are really on to something, only to find out later that we have more to learn. But now, be filled with enthusiasm. We are collecting the bits and pieces of our stories. There is more work to do with these bits later. Don’t worry about being too discerning right now. You never know what inconsequential bauble might be core to your journey when we dive back in to the underworld for processing later.

Follow the Moon: Forecast for November 10, 2017 - November 17

Moon in Leo
November 10—Last Quarter Moon: Re-seeding. Hekate stands at the crossroads with torches in hand, shedding only enough light to enhance the dark edges. In the liminal Scorpio season when the veils between the worlds are thin, Hekate coaxes me to move closer to the dark, whispering wisdoms about navigating change. For me, this lunar cycle has been about the crossing of thresholds and my choices at the crossroads. This lunar cycle began for me in Texas, where I was fortunate enough to co-facilitate a Reclaiming Witchcamp dedicated to Hekate. Strange that it has only been three weeks since this lunar cycle began. So much internal territory has been traversed. Have you noticed this too?

As the Moon wanes this week, we notice the impact of our travels through the torch-lit landscapes of this lunar cycle. The Moon in Leo, today at the last quarter phase, makes a square to the dark Scorpio Sun. Partially lit, partially dark, perhaps we are meant to trust our experiences of this cycle even when we do not possess clear vision about what they mean. We are feeling our way across thresholds. We are noticing what lights seem to beckon us to go farther. We are shedding here, too—letting go of the things that keep us from this instinctual journey. The relationship between the Moon in Leo and Mars in Libra encourages forward momentum. How does it feel to trust the dark?

Moon enters Virgo 10:41 am CST
Saturday, November 11.
At midnight in the U.S. central time zone, a grand fire trine (Moon in Leo, Saturn in Sagittarius, and Uranus in Aries) activates latent ambitions. Perhaps your dreams reveal your next bold action? There is plenty of energetic support to break down barriers while at the same time building up foundations that bolster change. For the final time since this transit began in December of 2016, the trine between Saturn and Uranus helps usher in new pathways to change. In December of 2016, many of us were reeling from the effects of the newly-elected U.S. President. Now, almost a year later, the 2017 election, though not perfect, showed encouraging change as winning candidates broke through barriers of gender and race. In Minneapolis, where I live, two transgender people of color were elected to our city council. The work is far from complete, but we can take this moment to acknowledge the efforts that have made change possible. As the Moon moves into Virgo, we have the opportunity to re-balance the realms of work and healing. What have you noticed about commitment to the work and to self-care? How has your “work ethic” shifted? What is important to remember as we go forward?

Moon in Virgo
Sunday, November 12.
Multiple mutable influences today could create confusion if we aren’t flexible and open. The Moon in mutable earth sign, Virgo, opposes Neptune in mutable water sign, Pisces, and makes a square to Mercury in mutable fire sign, Sagittarius. Such influence can help us integrate our experiences of this lunar cycle so far, but we have to be careful of wanting to wrap everything up in a nice package. We might have to live with contradictions and messy anomalies to really get at what we need to learn now. Beware of concretizing the revelations from the shadows of the Scorpio season. Keep letting go and being fearless. We have more to uncover.

Moon enters Libra 5:26 pm CST
Monday, November 13.
The two benefics, Venus and Jupiter, conjoin in Scorpio and this could be interesting. What is the benefit of the dark journey? What good comes from revelations of toxic secrets? What authentic power is reclaimed through seeing ourselves as we really are, not as we’ve been told we should be? How is transformation sexy? What is your soul journey? Of course, Scorpio can be overdone. That is true for every sign. And we may notice some of that too. But for today, we are encouraged to unlock the gates. Dive deep and dare. That being said, I am mindful that it is good to have a tether to the surface world of life and beauty as we do our diving today. What is yours? A square between Mercury in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces makes it more difficult to tell reality from illusion. So, this tether to what we love becomes even more valuable. On this mystical day, embrace what it means to be human.

Moon in Libra
November 14—Balsamic Moon: Composting. Yesterday’s conjunction of Venus and Jupiter in Scorpio set the stage for this phase of the Moon. Isn’t compost beautiful? Let’s extend gratitude for the miraculous processes that turn death into life. The Scorpio season is about this power. As this lunar cycle winds to a conclusion, we are able to let go and trust that the work that needed doing has been done well enough for now. The messages we received from beyond the veils have been received the best we know how. We have done our part, the best we could, to reweave the connections between the living and dead. As humans, we are not separate from this process, observing the transformative magic of compost objectively, but are being transformed and made into compost, too. How are you compost? How are you feeding life with your transformations?

The Moon returns to Libra, the sign that initiated this lunar cycle on October 19, a few days before the Sun moved into Scorpio. Libra is about balance and exchange. We are encouraged to reflect on the ways death feeds life and the balance that is created by this exchange. The Moon conjoins Mars today. Be engaged. Be actively pursuing balance. Belong to the mystery.

Moon in Libra
Wednesday, November 15.
If you can, about 45 minutes before dawn, look to the east to observe Venus, Jupiter and the waning sliver of the Moon rising together. http://earthsky.org/tonight/see-moon-venus-jupiter-at-dawn Perhaps this is the image you want to take with you as you let go of the efforts of this lunar cycle. Beauty leads to soulful journeys. Grief reminds us that life and relationships are precious. The tense aspects between the Moon and Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries make sure we keep pushing ourselves to turn over more dirt and break down more blocks to transformation and change.

Moon enters Scorpio 2:19 am CST
Thursday, November 16.
The Moon returns to Scorpio for the last two days of this lunar cycle. The next New Moon on November 18 occurs on the threshold between Scorpio and Sagittarius. We will take the dark journeys we’ve experienced during this lunar cycle into the seeds we plant at the next New Moon. I imagine these seeds will be fed richly by the compost of this Scorpio season. A deep watery influence comes from a trine between Venus in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces. We flow from instinct to intuition to insight. Compassion mixes with accountability. Vulnerability mixes with power. Transcendence mixes with desire. The trine between the Sun in Scorpio and Chiron in Pisces deepens the blending. And as a side note: in 2 ½ weeks, Mercury will station retrograde at the last degree of Sagittarius. Today, Mercury enters the retrograde shadow zone, pay attention to mental attachments. They are sure to change.

Moon in Scorpio
Friday, November 17.
We are mistaken if we think Scorpio, as a water sign, is a passive energy. Scorpio’s water power is transformative in all the ways water creates change, and there are many—the slow dissolve, the torrential flood, the freezing and crumbling, the misty obscurations. We might notice these powers today as the Sun in Scorpio makes a challenging connection to Uranus in Aries. Will the dam break? Or will we try and hold back the effects of change? Scorpio sometimes strives to keep thinks under control when the best choice might be to let go. Change is afoot. Mercury in Sagittarius sparks action through a sextile aspect to Mars in Libra. These transits make way for the next lunar cycle, which begins tomorrow. Depth experiences cannot be controlled, but we can harvest the force of them to move forward into the next arena—what we believe in and hope for our world.

Follow the Moon: Forecast for November 5, 2017 – November 17

The seasons of deep fall and deep spring make me fall in love again and again with the place I live. These are the Scorpio and Taurus seasons. Here in the upper Midwest, these times are dreamy, haunting, magical. The rebirth of deep spring after a long, long winter is simply miraculous. Life returning is good, but the dying that goes on in deep fall is no less enchanting. As the trees shed their leaves and the green bloods retire for the season, I am called to the threshold where death and life meet. Can anything be more beautiful? Gratitude and grief well up. This life is full of mysteries.

Taurus and Scorpio also happen to be opposite signs in the zodiac, anchoring opposite sides of the wheel of the year. The recent Taurus Full Moon brought these two halves together. Do you feel the potency of this moment? I think we are meant to. Perhaps it is this remembering of death’s connection to life that calls us into being fully human. Death brings us to right-sized relationship. We are not special. We are not immortal. But oh, sometimes we are quite beautiful. Do you also feel it? There is enough ugliness in this world. Being fully human is an antidote, perhaps.

The pull to the threshold between life and death is particularly strong because Jupiter is in Scorpio for the next year. When Venus enters Scorpio on November 7 and meets up with Jupiter on the 13th, expect this pull to deepen even more. Venus shows us beauty, but this planet is also about justice. Scorpio’s edge is sharp. Our passions for justice sharpen as well. The threshold can make us bolder, willing to go farther, daring to expose anything that is not in alliance with the beauty of this world.

A meaningful and supportive transit between Saturn in Sagittarius and Uranus in Aries encourages structured change. There is a safety net for stepping out of old patterns. This relationship between Saturn and Uranus has ebbed and flowed from December 2016 to now, when these two make their final trine at this time. Is it time to go after your dream? Does this beautiful time with death remind you how to “live your one wild and precious life?”

I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

Mary Oliver – A Summer Day

Moon enters Gemini 4:26 am CST
Sunday, November 5. Mercury leaves Scorpio to enter Sagittarius. With the Moon in Mercury’s home sign of Gemini today, we notice all the mercurial things. We are philosophical but perhaps have a hard time focusing on just one belief. So many influences. So much to learn. Curiosity is curiously healing. If we let go of certainty and a need for absolute answers, Mercury teaches us to adapt and engage with the endlessly fascinating world around us. Burn bright during the day and go into quiet reflection this evening when the Moon makes a square to Neptune in Pisces. Intellect and emotion adjust to each other.

Moon in Gemini
Monday, November 6.
Yesterday’s Gemini influences carry forward into today as well, except that this is Monday and that was Sunday. Focus will be a challenge as we start a workweek but this is the morning to experience serendipity. Change up your routine. Talk to someone you’ve never talked with before. Wonder what the day will bring. In the evening, when the Moon in Gemini opposes Saturn in Sagittarius, things get more serious. Don’t let Saturn beat you up too much. Curiosity brings it own rewards even if it means a short attention span.

Moon enters Cancer 4:44 am CST
November 7—Disseminating Moon: Fruiting. Astronomical Samhain. The Sun reaches the midpoint of Scorpio today. This is the heart of the Samhain season of the dead. Venus also enters Scorpio today while the Moon moves into moody Cancer. This is not a disparagement of Cancer, by the way. This dark feminine energy does not have to justify itself and is very actively opening doorways and channels to our deeper selves. It is as if we suddenly see whole new rooms in our psyches, whole new spaces to access for our futures. This phase of the Moon encourages reflection on what we have reaped from this lunar cycle. I can’t help but picture a blood red and juicy pomegranate split open to reveal mysteries of this season. In fact, I invite you to scry into a pomegranate today. This is the fruit of the underworld, the temptation that bound Persephone to her beloved dead. For part of the day, a grand water trine of Moon in Cancer, Jupiter/Venus in Scorpio, and Neptune in Pisces softens resistance to revelations from beyond the veils. The messages we receive may go directly into our souls bypassing the thinking mind. Give yourself time to sense into the flow and feel all the feelings.

Moon in Cancer
Wednesday, November 8.
What flowed yesterday could feel stifled by overwhelming obstruction today. We have a choice. Let the water pool, perhaps sinking deeper underground, or let the water build to such force that your obstructions are crushed by the power of emotion. Sounds dramatic. The aspects between the Moon in Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries feel pretty dramatic right now. The veils are thin between the worlds. Perhaps it is time to purge the depths. Perhaps the ancestors will help us. Be gentle with each other. If you have capacity, be available to others who may need help through this process. Find the courage to ask for help. Staying connected makes the transformation stronger.

Moon enters Leo 6:29 am CST
Thursday, November 9.
Energetically, today feels like the Sun bursting through after a few days of rain. The rain was lovely. So is the Sun. The Moon moves into the Sun’s natural sign, Leo, and the Sun in Scorpio makes a good connection with Pluto in Capricorn. If the last few days have been a purge, today is when we feel all refreshed and raring to go. Though there is one curveball. Mars in Libra makes a puzzling quincunx aspect to Neptune in Pisces. This is where we encounter a pause to forward momentum and that may not be all bad. Opening to the dead and worlds beyond the veils is vulnerable work. It is good to remember our souls are tender and growing best in the darkness in this season. Working in the darkness means we don’t see everything and are not meant to. This Mars/Neptune connection reminds us to be receptive, not assertive.
