Follow the Moon: Forecast for August 24, 2017 - August 28

My last post for a partial week. Here is the rest. For the beginning of the lunar cycle, visit here

Moon in Libra
Thursday, August 24. How do we feed and sustain the revolution? Radical acts of change can also be about tending the hearth, honoring the blessings of water, or stealthily strengthening connections and commitments to each other. Venus in water sign, Cancer, makes a square to Uranus in fire sign, Aries. Venus says, “Look at how you tend to the roots of change.” With the Sun and retrograde Mercury in Virgo, we want to get home base in order. This fall will bring lots of activism and work on creating a more just world. There are many ways to approach this work. Now, we begin to get ready.

Moon in Libra
August 25—Crescent Moon: Germinating. I got to see the total eclipse of the Sun on August 21 in on the range in Wyoming. It was the first one for me. For the brief moment of totality, it felt like I was downloading a lifetime of information. When the light came back, I did not really have words for what I had just experienced. Now, a few days after the eclipse I begin to acquire more words. I think I understand a little more what it meant to me—but not entirely. Not yet. That is what this phase of the Moon is like. When a seed germinates, roots burst from the seed and stretch down into the earth. If we are to grow, we need to break open and ground. The barest idea of the New Moon is beginning to coalesce into meaning, but we aren’t there yet. Stay open and curious. Even if you did not see the eclipse, it affected you. It has many more gifts to offer.

The sky is busy today. Notably, Saturn turns direct. Saturn stationed retrograde at 27 degrees Sagittarius on April 6. Saturn will reach that degree again on December 1. Then Saturn will move into Capricorn on December 19. It will not return to Sagittarius again until 2044. We begin to weave together the threads of meaning from Saturn’s transit of this sign. Saturn is the foundation builder. We’ve been given the opportunity to lay a firmer foundation in the realm of belief, truth, and meaning. This is a tricky terrain to feel firm about. Dogmatism, fanaticism, and fascism can arise from a sense of complete certainty. We are also learning to trust how we know what we know and how to build that knowing from values that serve life. What foundation sustains life and interconnection? It isn’t time to be timid about the difference between truths, those that serve life and those that do not.

Venus leaves Cancer for Leo. In the wheel of the year, the Moon-ruled sign, Cancer, preceeds the Sun-ruled sign, Leo. First, we tend to the roots, the hearth and home, then we expand into creative expression. We experience a re-blooming of summer’s joy. As the Moon in Venus-ruled Libra conjoins Jupiter, this feels like a day where love grows and bubbles over. While Venus is in Leo (until September 19), pay attention to how life force flows through your body, bringing pleasure and possibility.

Moon enters Scorpio 3:53 am CDT
Saturday, August 26.
The Sun and retrograding Mercury meet in the sky in the sign of Virgo. This is the heart of a Mercury retrograde period. Information is being exchanged between the Sun (self) and Mercury (our inventive, inquisitive natures). The Sun has really been the star of this lunar cycle (that’s a joke, the Sun is always a star). But astrologically speaking, the Sun was eclipsed in Leo (the sign ruled by the Sun) at the beginning of this lunar cycle. Now, Mercury pays a visit. Expect a download of information. Perhaps we don’t understand all of it right away. It may have to do with Virgo themes of service, devotion, and purification. I wouldn’t be at all surprised. The Moon in Scorpio turns this information towards our shadows. What if we purged the idea that we “should” be of service and explore the idea that devotional service is not only sexy, it’s life-giving! I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that was a simple leap today.

Moon in Scorpio
Sunday, August 27.
Here is a moment we’ve been waiting for. Jupiter in Libra makes a sextile to Saturn in Sagittarius today. Sextiles encourage collaboration. It isn’t often that these two planets figure out how to get along. Saturn is the constrictor. The one who says, Acknowledge your limitations but keep pushing toward excellence. Jupiter is the expander. The one who says, Abundance is the nature of the cosmos. I am here to give you more. Notice where you want to limit yourself and where you forget you can’t do it all by yourself. We do have limits. And the cosmos is abundant. The Moon in Scorpio makes an enchanting trine to Neptune while this is going on. Open to interconnection. Open your heart. Open to more.

Moon enter Sagittarius 2:47 pm CDT
Monday, August 28.
The Saturn/Jupiter influence from yesterday is still felt today. When the Moon enters expansive Sagittarius in the afternoon, we get a boost from Jupiter in Libra and Saturn in Sagittarius. We don’t have to be inflated to feel good about our achievements. Notice the hard work you’ve put in and be grateful for the gifts you’ve been given. Jupiter in justice-loving Libra encourages us to look at unearned privilege. Some of us have been given more than others. What will you do to rebalance those scales? How will we restructure the system to be more equitable? As the Moon makes a square to Mercury retrograding through Virgo, we might notice a lack of flow in the realm of information or travel. Reserve an extra dose of patience for today.
