Follow the Moon: Forecast for June 1, 2017 - June 8

Moon in Virgo
June 1—First Quarter Moon: Sprouting. I recently received a really great craniosacral therapy session from a gifted healer. This is very subtle bodywork that works with energy more than muscle manipulation. While she placed her hands softly on my skull and sacrum, I felt gentle waves of release. My body responded to the calm attention by relaxing and unfolding. As the treatment ended, I could sense subtle energies, which are always there but are usually not accessible to me. I felt human, as in this unshielded awareness is my birthright. This is how I am supposed to go about my life. I am imagining that this is also what the mutable signs of the zodiac (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) are primed to do—sense into subtle layers of energy, responding to each moment with what is most desirable, always adapting and learning and experiencing. What I also realized from this session is that our lives are not set up to be this open and receptive. We have to deal with so much every moment and that usually means shutting down to survive.

There is a lesson here for this mutable lunar cycle seeded in mutable air sign, Gemini. What delightful flexibility and sensitivity are we missing by numbing ourselves to the harsh cacophony of modern life? How do we stay present and receptive? There are two challenging mutable aspect patterns imprinting the energies of today. We may feel the stress of feeling too much. Perhaps we can also find the tools to calm our nervous systems as we open to the waves.

The Moon in mutable earth, Virgo, opposes Neptune in mutable water, Pisces. Both the Moon and Neptune are square the Sun in mutable air sign, Gemini. Part of us wants simple, pragmatic ways to deal with stress. Another part may seek to escape the tension altogether by numbing out. Our busy minds may go into overdrive, compensating by focusing on external details. The other mutable sign pattern involves Mars in Gemini opposing Saturn in Sagittarius (mutable fire). Both of these planets are square to Chiron in Pisces. This configuration shows where we are most challenged at the moment as we see more acts of violence directed at people of different faiths and races. There is a deep wounding in our U.S. culture (Chiron). Trump, who himself has a Gemini Sun and Sagittarius Moon, is providing impetus for unbalanced people to express their hate. This seems to me a failure to inhabit the mutable promise of delightfully sensing into complex waves of energy. Innate human intelligence is stunted by a fear of adaptation. At this phase of the Moon, we see our challenges. Notice your challenges to staying present to energy. Notice the things that help you open. Notice what makes you feel safe.

We have allies in this as rambunctious Venus in Aries trines Saturn. We’ve been learning lately about breaking free in relationships and in expressing our truths. No need to stop now.

Moon enters Libra 7:04 pm CDT
Friday, June 2. In yesterday’s forecast I wrote about the t-square aspect pattern of Mars, Saturn, and Chiron. Today, Mars in Gemini forms an exact square to Chiron in Pisces. The Moon in Virgo (mutable earth) turns this t-square into a grand cross. Mutable signs have a way of showing us our fault lines. Something may give way today. The Gemini seed for this lunar cycle is a remembering that we always have more than two choices. Complexity is desirous. In that complexity, let us honor our grief. Chiron in Pisces fills us with empathy as we open to shared wounding. Let us take courage (Mars) as we let down the walls that keep us from connection. May we reject dogmatic beliefs (Saturn) and embrace unifying truths, while remembering service (Virgo) to each other is the best foundation for respectful relationship.

Moon in Libra
Saturday, June 3. Know that you may do or say things today that you could regret later. I feel a need to use that caveat with Uranus transits. Venus conjoins Uranus in Aries and this is sort of the cherry on top of the whole transit of Venus in Aries, which has been longer than usual due to Venus retrograde. Venus entered Aries on February 4, went back into Pisces for two weeks in April and leaves Aries on June 6. This Venus has no patience. This Venus has provoked upheavals in relationships. This Venus wants authenticity and freedom. This Venus just met her match in Uranus. The revolution is on. The electricity of this transit, which could also bring electricity to love (just saying), is bolstered by a trine between the Sun in Gemini and Jupiter in Libra. The Moon also conjoins Jupiter just to make sure it is lively. You’ve been warned (and hopefully enchanted).

Moon in Libra
Sunday, June 4. Umm, were there fireworks last night? Yesterday, Venus conjoined Uranus in Aries. Who knows what new relationship directions this may have stirred up for you. The dust doesn’t really settle today, either. The Moon in Libra makes a square to Pluto in Capricorn reinforcing the theme that we need others even when we might not always trust them. The puzzling quincunx aspect between Mercury in Taurus and Saturn in Sagittarius encourages effective and meaningful communication, if we could only get over our vast differences. Mars enters Cancer, a big shift away from the airy influence of Gemini to more concern over our emotional impact. The square between the Sun in Gemini and Neptune in Pisces tempts with the not always so healthy release valve of fantasies or addictions. On the other hand, we sometimes need to chill out. Since mutable signs are about sensing energetic waves in our environments, we might need to tune out a little of that input today.

Moon enters Scorpio 5:46 am CDT
June 5—Gibbous Moon: Budding. There’s a grounding technique I know that involves imagining a bowl of mashed potatoes being dumped on your head. We might want to use that technique today. The past few days have been highly mutable, and that means a lot of variability. One moment things are going great, the next they couldn’t be worse. These kinds of ups and downs can create a state of vigilance so that the next change doesn’t catch us unawares. After a while, exhaustion sets in. If this has been your reality, it is time to welcome the fixed water Moon in Scorpio to smooth things out. We can use Scorpio energy to purge any leftover effects of stress and anxiety. Mashed potatoes. Draw in your antennas. We’ve still got a ways to go in this mutable air lunar cycle. It is good to pace ourselves and regroup around the intention that was set at the Gemini New Moon on May 25.

Inspired by Rumi’s observation that outside the notions of rightdoing and wrongdoing there is a place where the world is too full to talk about, I have dedicated this lunar cycle to stepping outside the binary approach to life. My biggest challenge has come from decision making. I can find myself paralyzed by thinking I might make the wrong decision.Instilling a fear of being wrong is a powerful tool of control for systems of oppression. This work of quieting those voices is radical work. The Gibbous phase helps us realize what we want to accomplish by our lunar intentions. The bud of a plant holds so much potential. We may feel that potential rising as the Moon makes a trine to Mars in Cancer today. Intuition and compassion are the tools most accessible as Mercury in Taurus makes a sextile to Chiron in Pisces. Water cools down a lot of recent frantic energy. Perhaps this helps us to imagine that wordless field beyond the binary.

Moon in Scorpio
Tuesday, June 6. Things fall into place today. Two planets enter the signs they rule. Venus leaves Aries behind (finally) to enter Taurus and Mercury moves into Gemini. We’ve noticed Venus in Aries (from February till now) in the ways we have been treating each other. For some, Venus has asked us to be more assertive in relationship and others may have lost the desire to please others at all. Venus retrograde journey gave us an opportunity to reflect and reengage with more passion and honesty. I like to imagine Venus in Taurus as her Empress aspect. In the Tarot, the Empress is often seen lounging on a couch surrounded by abundance and beauty. That feels divine right now. Find a way to soak in sensual pleasure. Mercury sparks curiosity and wonder in the sign of the Twins. Notice an uplift in your mood even with the Moon in brooding Scorpio, things seem just right.

Moon enters Sagittarius 5:59 pm CDT
Wednesday, June 7. The evening will be livelier than the day. The Moon in Scorpio for most of the day (CDT), encourages time for intimate connections or solitary recharging. Notice what your soul is telling you. Later, the Moon moves into Sagittarius, the sign of the Full Moon on Friday. We begin to feel the building energy. Mutable signs are sensitive to energy,, even when they don’t know it. We may notice thinks picking up when the Moon opposes Mercury in Gemini tonight. Opposite signs can provoke each other. These signs want to talk over an array of topics. Stay engaged.

Moon in Sagittarius
Thursday, June 8. I am interested to see how the Full Moon in Sagittarius (exact tomorrow) affects Donald Trump. He was born June 14, 1946 on the Full Moon in Sagittarius. Will this be an enlivening occasion or will there be even more crises popping up for him? Information flows quickly and freely under mutable sign emphasis (just notice how much Trump tweets, he can’t control himself). So secrets could be revealed. However, another mutable quality is that things don’t stick as easily.Secrets may come out but that doesn’t mean he will immediately suffer the consequences. What does the character of Donald Trump teach us about how we want to use the energies of this Full Moon? All astrological energies have useful and not useful qualities. It is useful to see more than one side, or more than just two side, to an issue. Mutable signs are good at this. What assumptions do you want to revisit in honor of this Full Moon? The Moon makes a trine to Jupiter in Libra and a square to Neptune in Pisces. Boundaries are fuzzy, we want to jump ahead of ourselves, but revelations await us. Let curiosity be the guide.
