Monday, March 13. Mercury gets down and dirty for the next two weeks. The planet of communication enters Aries. The fuse just got a lot shorter. We can expect to feel more argumentative and impatient. The Moon in Libra wants to balance the scales, create a little more harmony, but that may be difficult to achieve. This evening (CDT) the Moon opposes retrograde Venus in Aries. Gender/women’s issues are heating up, too. Here is my advice. Take several breaths before hitting the Send button. We don’t want to dawdle in our communications but it pays to give ourselves more time to think through unexpected consequences of saying the wrong thing.
Tuesday, March 14. The Moon in Libra conjoins Jupiter. First of all, this will be visually stunning when both rise a little after sunset. Late in the night, when the Moon and Jupiter are overhead, we might be able to feel the heightened energy of this conjunction. Don’t be surprised if your sleep is disturbed. Jupiter likes to make things bigger. Jupiter itself is the second-biggest object in our solar system (after the Sun). Bigger by a lot. The Moon pulls us to the things that this Jupiter in Libra wants to expand in our lives. That is relationships, partnerships, harmony, balance, and justice. How large do these Libra qualities loom in your life right now? The Moon also triggers the t-square aspect pattern that Jupiter has been forming with Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn. This pattern could be called “Waking up to imbalances of power.” The Sun in Pisces conjoins Chiron, creating dissonance between our desires for action and change and our desires for surrender and flow. The flow carries us into the sensing of global suffering. The response could be anger. Notice yours.
Wednesday, March 15. The last few days may have left us feeling exposed. Take cover under the Scorpio Moon. Passions are still high as the Moon opposes Mars in Taurus today, but we don’t have to let everyone know about them. Before making decisions about relationships you might regret later, take the time to process your feelings with a trusted friend or therapist. We’ve got lots to look at and let go of.
March 16—Disseminating Moon: Fruiting. What are you noticing about emotional complexity? The Pisces lunar cycle encourages opening the flow of emotional information. We can turn into sponges, soaking up the emotions of those around us. Not only do we feel our own feelings more strongly, but we feel connected to others through theirs. This is an important ingredient to human experience that we often deny or pathologize. Many of us aren’t taught how to handle all this information. This is where the contrast with the Scorpio Moon offers wisdom. Pisces is mutable water. Scorpio is fixed water. Scorpio takes emotion to the source, deep in the psyche and finds the hidden places of transformation. Sometimes, we don’t have to be nice to be compassionate. Sometimes, we can feel others’ suffering and still hold them accountable for their choices. Scorpio can bring out the claws, but it also supports healing through transformation. This phase of the Pisces lunar cycle (begun on February 26) feels like an important turning point. We don’t have to roll over and take whatever comes our way, even as we shed the past. We might be noticing that we’ve done the work and now, we are ready for what comes next.
Friday, March 17. The Sun in Pisces makes a square aspect to Saturn in Sagittarius. The quest for meaning is clear but the path is not. The Sun in Pisces has been inviting us to soften around and even discard things that held great meaning for us at one time. We’ve learned that truth is flexible, but that may not always be desirable. Saturn in Sagittarius has us investigating commitment to meaning. What truth will I follow to the end? This may not always be desirable either. The conflict between these messages may help us find a third path. What purpose does meaning and truth serve in your life? How is it an anchor? How is it a crutch? We get to ponder such things today.
Saturday, March 18. On March 4, Venus put her foot down in Aries as she stationed retrograde. Women are demanding to be heard. Women are calling each other out, in great Aries fashion, about privilege, gender essentialism, and intersectionality. It is important to talk about these things. Mercury, the god of communication, conjoins Venus today, giving us a perfect opportunity to get some things off our chests. Be careful. Aries is not known for diplomacy or thinking things through to their conclusion. Passionate communication opens the gates. As Venus continues to retrograde, we may be reflecting on the things said today. The Moon in Sagittarius is either helping us or making more trouble, depending on your point of view. Sagittarian fire (knowing what I believe) feeds Aries fire (courageous action). Tonight, when the Moon makes a square to Neptune in Pisces, we may notice the feelings that have been hurt are ours.
Sunday, March 19. Can you feel the tub draining the last drops of the Pisces season? Early tomorrow, the Sun goes into Aries, marking the Vernal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. If this lunar cycle is about shedding the past to prepare for Spring’s emergence, this is the last day that intention really works. Tomorrow, even though the lunar cycle has a week to go, we begin projecting ahead to the growing cycle to come. The Moon in Sagittarius has us feeling philosophical. Notice how many opinions you hold about how others should be living. If that is strong for you, take a turn focusing on yourself. This lunar cycle began on February 26. What have you learned?
March 20—Last Quarter Moon: Re-seeding. Spring Equinox. The Sun’s ingress into Aries happens today. Although the Pisces lunar cycle continues for another week, the energies shift away from releasing and into emerging. The Last Quarter Moon represents a shift too. Seeds were planted at the New Moon. Those plants have produced their own seeds. We get to look critically at our intentions, noticing what we have learned. We put our successes and our failures into these new seeds, hopefully possessing more wisdom and clarity about what we really want.
Tuesday, March 21. Yes, our bodies DO have a lot of wisdom. The Moon in Capricorn forms a trine to Mars in Taurus. Use this alignment to tap into what the body knows. We may sense into our ambitions for sustainable change. Issues of security may skew our ability to see the big picture. There is a difference between being responsible and being safe. Choose accountability for the right reasons. Mercury in Aries and the Moon square off today. Mercury knows what it knows and that part of us may have a hard time listening to authority. The conflict could spark brilliant breakthroughs but be careful with fire.
Wednesday, March 22. The Moon conjoins Pluto today, triggering the influential t-square pattern that has been in place since December 2016. Look at your responses to power. Sometimes, we need to claim ours before we can be in right relationship. Power always throws up shadows, especially if we only see models of corrupt power around us. How can we share power effectively? Notice how far this inquiry takes you today. Effectively sharing power with all life encourages us to be in relationships that honor the give and take and the inter-connections we all share.
Thursday, March 23. Mercury in Aries makes a square to Pluto in Capricorn. Over the next four days, Mercury will aspect the other planets in the t-square aspect pattern of Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Libra, and Pluto in Capricorn. Tensions do not seem to be abating but only getting stronger. Mercury and Pluto square off around power, authority, and truth. Mercury in Aries has an impulsive and argumentative communication style. If you’ve been resentful of powerful figures in your life, this aspect could trigger a need to tell the world about it. Mercury in this sign is gifted with passion and mental acuity. Words can be weapons, however, be careful of communication that feels too hot or hasty. This is the time to speak truth to power. What do you want to say?
March 24—Balsamic Moon: Composting. The lunar cycle seeded in Pisces enters the last phase. The Balsamic phase has a similar energetic signature to the sign of Pisces. This phase concludes every lunation. Pisces is the sign that concludes the Sun’s journey through the zodiac. We are wrapping up the wrapping up of the year. At the next New Moon in Aries on March 27, we begin the beginning. Feel into the liminality of this moment. Even though the Sun has entered Aries already, there is opportunity here to shed another layer. Perhaps you have greater clarity about what no longer serves you now that Spring is truly emerging. What is left undone that will help you move forward? What will you add to the compost heap?
Saturday, March 25. Venus visits the Sun today. This moment is the heart of the Venus retrograde journey. Venus in Aries stationed retrograde on March 4. When Venus stations retrograde, this beautiful planet is high in the western sky at sunset. After the station, Venus quickly disappears. Myths describe this time as the goddess’s journey to the underworld when she is so near the Sun, we can’t see Venus with the naked eye. Where has she gone? Why has she left us? The union between the Sun and Venus today transmits a core piece of energy wisdom. Venus normally tempers our willfulness. As ruler of Libra, Venus encourages diplomacy and cooperation. In Aries, Venus isn’t that nice at all. Sometimes we need to rock the boat. There is no guarantee that we won’t regret it later, but stirring the pot can be just what we need to move forward. Look at your passions. Are you holding back? What if you dared to take a step anyway? What if you acted courageous even when you are feeling afraid? All this might come naturally today without much conscious thought. This is one of those transits that just moves us along in the ways that we need to move. Embrace your fire.
Sunday, March 26. This lunar cycle ends in much the way it began, with contrasting influences. On one hand, the Moon in Pisces conjoins Neptune, asking us to let go of outcome and shed the past. On the other hand, Mercury in Aries conjoins Uranus, asking us to wake up and act. It is good to be aware of our inner and outer realities. The waning Moon brings lower energy. We might be feeling a need for solitude or some time to reflect. The combination of Mercury and Uranus however, is stimulating and restless. Ideas come fast and furious. Jolts of insight might instigate big change and daring action. We feel tomorrow’s New Moon in Aries activating a desire to take risks. The Fool’s Journey begins with Aries as we leap into the wheel of the year. Where will we go? What will we find? How might we change the world and ourselves? Are you ready for the journey?
